I’m sitting here in a crowd and I am people watching. The parade of diversity before my eyes is amazing! But, A Course in Miracles says, “When you meet anyone, remember it is a holy encounter. As you see him, you will see yourself. As you treat him, you will treat yourself. As you think of him, you will think of yourself. Never forget this, for in him you will find yourself or lose yourself.” Perhaps, then, I shouldn’t be so fascinated with our differences, but focus, instead, on our similarities. The only way I find I can do that is to stop looking with my eyes and look with my heart instead. My heart sees that each person has a story that seems unique, but, at its core, is the same as mine – a search for love, a longing for joy and hope of everlasting peace. Perhaps it is our habit of looking at, fearing, or even celebrating our differences that is the very thing keeping us from fully experiencing the love, peace and joy we seek. I’m going to try to change what I tell myself the next time I find myself impressed by diversity. As I look at each “individual” I will think to myself, We are not so different – you and I.
Celebrating our sameness . . .
Let “our” spirit soar!
