I picked up my mother at the Manchester airport last Tuesday. She arrived on schedule at 1:15 but her luggage did not. Because she had to board the plane last minute, her bag got loaded onto the next flight which wouldn’t arrive until 5pm. By the time we discovered this, it was still over three hours away. Reluctantly, my mom said she would make the two hour round trip back to pick it up later. What choice did she have? Although she is very independent, I didn’t like the idea of my 89 year old mother doing all that driving during rush hour traffic, especially after a whole morning of air travel. I had a better idea.

I have wanted to spend more time with her anyways so, I thought why not spend those hours shopping at the Manchester Mall together? We haven’t been there in years! Off we went on our little excursion. We haven’t shopped together for a very long time so we had lots of fun and we each found items that we had been searching for. Instead of struggling, we ended up enjoying a lovely afternoon.

I’m gradually learning to remember to take a deep breath before I start grumbling that things aren’t going according to my plan because, quite often, they are working out perfectly according to my desires.

Recently, I wrote about how the universe is always giving us what we ask for. I’d like to add – it doesn’t always show up in the way we’ve imagined!

My 60th birthday is fast approaching and I had decided I would love to celebrate by going to dinner and a concert; something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time. When I heard that Yanni would soon be performing nearby, I excitedly went on-line for tickets. The best seats were already sold out and they were a bit too pricey for me anyways, so I decided to wait. The very next day I discovered that Triple AAA members can enter a drawing for four free tickets to see Yanni. There was my chance!

Then, last night, a friend called me with a last minute invitation to attend a concert with her. Because another friend had just treated me to dinner that afternoon to thank me for something, I was already dressed and ready to go so I said, “Yes, let’s do it!” After hanging up the phone, I began laughing when I realized what had just happened – a FREE dinner followed by a FREE concert at the Berklee Center for Performing Arts in Boston – a performance that was so fabulous, by the way, that at one point I thought, this might even be better than seeing Yanni!!!

I don’t know if I’ll win the tickets to see him or not. That would be awesome but there will be no disappointment if I don’t. After all . . .

I already got what I asked for.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Let your spirit soar!

Placing Your Order (#8)

My friend just ordered a new blouse through a catalog. When it arrived, it was not the size or style she thought she had ordered which was upsetting because she needed it for a job interview in just a few days. Not having enough time to exchange the blouse, forced her to try it on. To her surprise, it fit perfectly and complimented her jacket better than what she originally ordered. Already feeling quite confident about this job opportunity, my friend said that this was just one of many pleasant “coincidences” that seemed to be paving the way to a great interview for her.

“Conversely, I felt deflated when an opportunity I believed I wanted, and had worked hard to secure, was cancelled mid-way through. I had to admit I was uncertain about the entire program, and while I wanted to participate, I still had a great deal of ambivalence about it. Though it meant losing opportunities that could be advantageous to me, the cancellations were the perfect solution to my dilemma.”

With every thought we think, we place our order with the universe. My friend’s confidence brought her the right blouse. My uncertainty brought me cancellations. Although we might not always get what we say we want, we are always getting exactly what we ask for.

What order have you placed today?

Let your spirit soar!
